These two have such a cool story.  Jen used to go to a family vacation home in Rockaway Beach during the summers, and Ryan lived in the area.  They met there one summer when they were growing up, and have known each other ever since.

We decided to meet on the beach where they grew up together.

The rock jetties were calling my name, so naturally we all climbed out to the end of one.

You can just tell how comfortable these two are with each other.  It’s like they’ve known each other forever… cause they kinda have!

Ryan is a Fireman, so when we were done at the beach we walked around the corner to the local firestation for a few shots.

Next, we took a drive over to Brooklyn to the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens.  I had never been there before, and I’m SO glad we went.  This place is AMAZING!  If you’re ever in Brooklyn, it’s definitely worth a visit.

On the way back, we walked by this cool building, so of course we had to stop.

Jen and Ryan – Thank you for showing me around your old stomping grounds!  You guys are awesome, and I know your wedding is going to be such a special day.  We can’t wait until October!

We were meeting at a park, and I wasn’t really sure what to expect.  I drove into a bare parking lot that backed up to a trail into the woods.  I would have never known that through the woods and over the hill it would open up to this:

I drove through rain the entire way to Danbury, but when I got to the park, it was sunny and beautiful.

Jeannette and Brian enjoy hiking together, so we all went on a short stroll up to the top of the hill in the park.  The light up there was beautiful.

On the way back to the cars, we saw this random piece of rusting farm equipment in the middle of a lush, green field.  Naturally, we hit it up!

Jeannette and Brian – I had a blast with you guys and enjoyed getting to know you both a little better.  Ashley and I are pumped about your wedding!  See you in October!

This year, however, I am determined to do better.  Ashley and I have been making our goals for the year, and we have some very exciting things going on (more on that in a future post).  But for now, it’s time to catch up on some highlights from last year:

In September, I joined forces with Katie Slater to shoot her clients, Jim and Jaime, and their beautiful wedding at The Red Barn in Amherst, MA.  Jim and Jaime are both wonderful people, and we had an awesome time documenting their wedding.  Here are some of my favorite images I was able to capture that day:

Guy proposed to Melissa earlier this year, and I was thrilled when they asked me to shoot their engagement photos.  We started here, in the quad where they met as undergrads.

As we walked around campus, Guy told me how he picked out the ring and how he proposed.  Melissa couldn’t help but smile listening to him tell the story.

When we came across this tree, Melissa jokingly asked if I was going to make them climb it.

And I was like, “Actually, I like that idea!”

After we had walked around campus for a while, we made our way up to Horse Barn Hill. I love this one. Don’t they look like they are standing on top of the world?!

I had no idea what kind of views there were from up there!

The clouds provided us with an absolutely beautiful sunset.

These two took direction so well. They are natural models!

It just kept getting better and better! These last two definitely make my “favorites” list.

Guy and Melissa – I had a blast with you guys.  Congratulations on your engagement! You are absolutely perfect for one another.

Before the ceremony, I dropped by Hien’s parents’ house where Hien and her girls were getting ready:

Hien had a team of people helping her get ready.  While her maid of honor was zipping up her dress, another one of her bridesmaids was reapplying her lip gloss.

Then it was on to the ceremony.  I met up with Jim at the church and we went to work snagging some details.  I love his shot of Hien’s bouquet on the bottom right:

Then it was on to the reception, and the couple’s first dance:

As part of a Vietnamese tradition, the couple visited every table during dinner.  One person from each table gave the couple a blessing on behalf of the rest of the table.

This group knew how to dance!  Their reception was a blast.

Congratulations, Matt and Hien!  May you have many years of happiness in your new life together!

Jen got ready at her parents house.  Before she put her dress on, we snagged some details.  Jen’s Dress was absolutely stunning!

While I worked the dress, Ashley grabbed some details of the shoes and the bouquet.

Jen’s bridesmaids did a fantastic job arranging the flowers.  Ashley grabbed this shot, too.

The ceremony was at the First Baptist Church in Wallingford.  Ashley snagged this shot of Jen while she waited to make her entrance.

You could tell Jon had been waiting his whole life for this.

After the ceremony, we all headed down to the reception at Jon’s Parents’ place on the beach in Old Lyme.  To accommodate their guests, they set up a huge tent next to their house.

Ashley and I arrived a little bit before the bridal party, so we got to work capturing the details.

When Jen and Jon arrived, it started to rain a little bit, but these two were troopers!  I guess that umbrella did come in handy after all!  This is definitely one of my favorites from the day:

The rain didn’t last long, though, so we got the whole bridal party out for some fun.  Ashley took the girls:

Jen and Jon had their first dance to Elvis Presley’s “Can’t Help Falling in Love”.  The folks from The Aquaturf Catering provided their signature fog:

The Maid of Honor and the Best Man both gave very heartfelt toasts.

And then, it happened… The King himself surprised the newlyweds with a posthumous performance.

After they cut the cake, it was time for folks to get their dance on!

Even this little guy was out there starting a fire on the dance floor.

Ashley stepped outside for a moment and came back with these incredible ring shots:

The Father-Daughter dance was precious.  You couldn’t hide the smile on either of their faces.

I’ll leave you with a couple more of my favorites.  The clouds in the sky provided a beautiful sunset photo-op, and you know we weren’t going to pass that up!

Congratulations Jen and Jon!  Thank you for sharing your special day with us.
